It has been produced as a limited edition print (a folded leporello), and in a digital edition for the TULCA website. An extract of the project is installed in the window of Galway City Library during the second week of the festival run. View the zine as an interactive pdf here. View and order the printed zine here.&nbsp; The zine was made through two DIY graphic design workshops, held remotely via Zoom in October 2020 after research and production materials were posted out to participants. Usually or Infrequently Indecent or Obscene explores feminist activism and historical censorship of sexual expression on the island of Ireland. The project draws on printed materials linked to the Censorship of Publications Act, 1929, in the Republic of Ireland and the subsequent 1946 and 1967 Acts. The project engages with a range of printed materials that were banned in the time period between 1967-1977, and explores the relevance and resonance of this history with young people today. A primary focus is on the prohibition of the distribution and sale of the iconic UK-based second wave feminist magazine Spare Rib and direct actions taken by members of Irishwomen United to counter this. Workshop participants: Ruby Ní Dhubhslaine, Sophia Doherty, Queef May, Ailbhe Moore, Molly Terrins. The Haggerston-based Hackney Food Co-op (1973) proposed a self organised alternative system to share resources while helping to create a sense of community for the most vulnerable citizens (women, mothers and single mothers, children and ethic minorities) abandoned by their own State. The Life and Hard Times of Susie P Winklepicker (1986) by film director Deborah Hall (part of the Women and The Law Collective) is tragicomedy which explores the pitfalls of UK legal system and its means of control through forced economic dependency for women as a means to maintain hierarchies of gender, class and race. The film acts as a starting point of discussion on the Poor Law of the nineteenth century, as well as the recent Social Security Act (in 1986 still only a set of proposals), and with various aspects of work and marriage affected by the law. The film follows a collective of community activists resisting the urban redevelopment of the north inner-city of Dublin in 1982. The gatekeepers of the community are introduced, resisting the might of the encroaching developers: families of street traders fight market closures; activist Mick Rafferty voices concern about Dublin Corporation; and Christy Flood, the last occupant of the Gardiner Street tenements, fights to retain his homestead. Locals look on as the tenements are demolished and the city transforms around them. PS² ground floor space was used to launch of the publication ‘DORIS’ on the evening of Thursday 23rd of May. During the opening, a special ‘pappa al pomodoro’ inspired by a Doris Lessing’s novel was served to the guests.
